A Day @ PaperArts with Brownies & Guides

Great day out yesterday with Maggie @ PaperArts with lots of other ladies all eager to participate in a class with Sandie Vincent.  Fiona, as usual, demonstrated her baking skills by supplying a huge Victoria Sponge, Cheese Scones & some wonderful Brownies for treats.

Five minutes after we had sat down the building was mobbed by a minibus load of Guide Leaders on their way to an activity weekend away, where else would you stop but PaperArts? The Wiltshire based Guides had made a wise choice to call in and take advantage of the amazing 20% off offered until tonight. I think they were there for about 2hrs and left with happy faces off to their weekend venue - probably to scrap their hearts out. Laura & Fiona were exhausted by the time they left :)

We enjoyed Sandie's class, and it was great to meet her after discovering her online via My Creative Scrapbook. Her boundless energy fuelled with mugs of coffee enabled her to flit around the room showing off her LO and handmade flower.

Sandie was telling us about the Sparkle Retreat she's involved with. that's taking place October 2011,  it sounded really good with great teachers:-

As it's not until October 2011 and there is a payment plan I might be able to go, here's hoping! I had a very productive time, finishing off more of more base pages for my JYC Class with Shimelle's for this year. I also covered the inside front & back pages along with the back cover. I've almost completed the Album Title page pictures to follow!

Published Again - Yippee!!!!

I've been published again on Practical Scrappers Blog, a Black & Orange LO (not Halloween themed!)

Thursday, 28 October 2010

A Very Productive Day!

After my late start, I did manage to get 1 LO completed and 28/36 basic 8"x8" pages done for Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas which starts 1st December. This meant base cardstock & patterned papers.
I still have 8 pages left to do and the cover of my album (insides & out!). This means when the prompt comes it will be just a case of taking a photo, printing and adding to LO, journalling , few embellishments & a title ........ SIMPLES YES????? I hope so, LOL!

Up and At Them

Well up but it's not early, but going to do loads of crafty things today :)
Slept like a log all that driving really tired me out so it's a "me" day today, Maggie & I may not even get dressed, poor Tim, he's so understanding.

Good Day Today!

Had a good day today with Maggie, although shattered after driving 200 miles, went to parents @ Sidmouth, onto Crafty Devils @ Barnstaple, drove over Exmoor, saw the ponies and and drove down Porlock Hill (scary!). Drove through Lynton and down to Lynmouth and stopped in Lynmouth for a stroll & cuppa.
Bed is calling, I'm so tired :)

My Creative Scrapbooking, Oct-Nov Colour Challenge (Blue & Orange)

My Creative Scrapbooking Colour Challenge for October/November was to use Orange & Blue, I used my scraps from the Basic Grey Marrakech Range to create this LO.

True Stories - Prompt 2, Letters & Numbers

I loved this prompt, the A-Z of friends spoke to me and I know I will do a LO on that , the numbers also gave me an idea, I found out how many days I've lived, how many days I've been married, did a random generator of 5 numbers and will definately do a LO on numbers, thanks for this great stuff. I also spent time reading others FAQ etc and made a note of future questions that may lead to a LO.
I will post my A-Z list on Friendship very soon.

True Stories, Prompt 1 - The Answers

OK, well the answers, who knew that once I started writing I would find it hard to stop. I'm the girl who puts a title, a few words and if I remember a date on the LO.

4 questions and reems of writing later I'll have to put the really short answers as otherwise we'd be here for ever.

1. Tim & I met at a divorced & separated club in 1986, 5 days after my 30th birthday, I was in a bad place in my life and it was instant attraction, he delivered a cute handmade belated birthday card through my door a couple of days later and then we went on our first date 12/10/86, we married 12/10/91.

2. We moved from the midlands to Somerset to be nearer my parents as my mum was diagnosed with cancer and I needed to support her, as my father found it difficult to cope with it all and turned to alcohol for the answer. Needless to say this rendered him unable to look after mum - which meant I had to be there to take my mum for treatments etc. I don't regret the move, in fact it meant I eventually ended living closer to my daughter as he moved to the same area.

3. Plain and simple answer, I like dogs, I LOVE cats and can't imagine living without them in my life, although for one long week we had to (I have a LO planned for that!) We have 2 cats, Felix & Oscar and they are unruly hooligans that run the house.

4. I'm into music that is by female artists, Madonna, Pink, Anastacia, Christine Aguilera, Kylie, Beyonce, Kiara, Keri Hilson, Melanie C, Rihanna, Taylor Swift,  Sugarbabes, Girls Aloud & the Pussycat Dolls - quite elclectic, not that I don't do men's voices  There are a few  - Savage Garden, Seal, Snow Patrol, Nickelback, Linkin Park &  Keith Urban.

Something Completely Different LO - 22/10/10

The challenge was to use YELLOW & GREEN, I scrapped a photo og Grandson 2 as I had some gorgeous pp in those colours with frogs & ducks on.

Shimelle - True Stories - Prompt 1 - FAQ

First you start with a journalling book and a pen - here's mine!

Then 3-5 questions people ask you regularly

1. How did you and Tim meet?
2. Why did you move to Somerset?
3. Are you a cat or dog person?
4. What kind of music do you listen to?

More on the answers soon.

Glee Club Week 6 Challenge - Golden Oldies

Chose the Buddy Holly song "Everyday" for my LO of Haydn on his 1st birthday with cake, I love his expression.
Rock & Roll, moody feel, clean lines, again inspiration from one of Buddy's Album Covers (lone figure).

Over 1000 amazing hits on the blog!

How amazing - when I started the blog who would have thought over 1,000 hits since August, I'm honoured that people keep reading and commenting, thank you, thank you :)

Getting sorted and excited

Soooo excited, my best mate Maggie is coming to stay from Sun/Mon until 31st October. Yippee, we're planning to scrap, chat, visit, shop & go to a crop & class.

What we got planned?
  • Visit my parents in Sidmouth to pick up some stuff (they're moving!)
  • Visit Crafty Devils in Barnstaple
  • Go to PaperArts for a class with Sandi Vincent on 30th
  • Scrapbook Tues, Thurs & Fri
Pure bliss, the craft room is now empty (all in the dining room), the spare bed is up and the Cricut, Bind it All, Sewing Machine & Heat Gun are all set up behind the sofa, so visitors beware there is little space to move.
Menus are planned, Chinese on her birthday, Liver & Onions, Luxury Fish Pie, Cottage Pie, Lancashire Hotpot, Lasagne & a roast before she goes home, she will be truly spoilt as well she deserves.

Didn't get the job, but not upset :)

Just had a phone call, did not get the post I applied for, but I am not disappointed, it was probably for the best. I'm not sure they could cope with my personality LOL!

THIS IS A COPY OF A POST THAT I FELT WAS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO SHARE - I HOPE YOU AGREE!

I READ THIS ON VICKY BELL'S BLOG

Letter to my daughter ( in the wake of senseless tragedy)

Hello my girl,
I  wanted to say hi and tell you how much I miss you and that I hope your classes are going well and that you are having fun too.
But I also have to have a mommy moment-  bear with me here.  I won't take long, and I won't be saying anything I haven't already said in one form or another,  but it is important.

You may or may not have heard about the NJ college student who killed himself last week because his room-mate had posted videotape of him having sex with another guy.  A terrible, senseless tragedy.

My mommy job requires that I remind you of two essential things:
One:
Nothing ruins your life forever. NOTHING.
Two:
Nothing ruins your life forever. NOTHING.

If that young man had only waited a couple of weeks nobody would have cared- he'd have gotten past it.  People have short memories- life would have gotten better, much better.  His parents and friends? They loved him prior to the tape- they would have loved him afterward too.  A few awkward moments and then life goes on.

But when you are young you don't know that even the awkward moments are fleeting.  On this,  you just have to trust the old people.  Remember when you were really small and cried and cried over something?  Well,  it didn't last.  That's kind of what it's like- awful things happen, you feel like there's a rock in the pit of your stomach, somehow time goes by and it gets better.  I promise you, it ALWAYS gets better.

The students, a girl and boy, who were involved in the taping and posting-- they are being charged with bias crime, invasion of privacy and possibly other things.  Their college life is over.  They will have to live with this death the rest of their lives-- and their families are devastated.  What they did was so wrong- but also so kid-stupid.  Not to mention mean. And so their lives will be different forever- but even so- their families will love them and they will have time enough to hopefully live in such a way as to make meaning from their mistake.

So, my beautiful girl,  never, ever think something is unfixable.  NOTHING you do will ever keep us from loving you.  NOTHING you do could be so awful you can't get past it.

And if someone is mean to you, and it isn't something you can ignore-- seek out people to talk to about it.  Surround yourself with people who are supportive.  If you ever need help and don't know how to ask- try writing a letter instead.  And right now- before you might need such help- think about who you would talk to if needed.  In the midst of turmoil sometimes we don't always think as clearly- having a plan makes it easier to find help in crisis.  And remember there are always alternatives. Always.

Finally, don't be mean.  Don't let other people be mean.
Stand up for the underdog, protect those who aren't as smart or confident or easygoing as yourself.
Treat people's feelings like fragile little puppies- if you play with them- be gentle.

I love you so much and I know you really don't need me to tell you this stuff.... but it's my job.
Love and hugs,
Mommy

Been Busy!

So far today - I've made Chicken Liver Pate, Meatballs in Tomato Sauce & Corn Beef Hash, watched all the SKY+ catchup TV, searched for papers & a photo for the next Glee Club Challenge Week 4 (Southern Gospel) - I know I had to look on Wikipedia to find out what it was too! Had a great relaxing day, recharging the batteries in anticipation of the kiddywinks arriving 7:30am tomorrow.

Busy at a Party

Sorry NO post yesterday, busy with the kiddywinks in the morning while the kids looked at houses in Burnham. Then onto a 1st Birthday Party for Freddie, 3 boys born within 22 days of each other makes for an expensive month, Freddie was born the day after Haydn and Harry was born 22 days earlier, maybe some time they will get to do joint parties, especially 18 & 21 LOL!

Out for dinner tonight, a real treat, and had lunch out too and I'm being a really good girl, it's getting easier to make good choices, armed with more knowledge.

Scrap Weekly in 2010 - Challenge #40

This week the challenge set by Vernell from Massachusets is to use multiple photos (at least 5) on your layout.
Here's my effort, didn't use more than 19 which was the count on her LO, but did manage 17!

The Craft Garden - October Challenge - Entry 2

Completely Loved LO, loads of pink ribbons used!

The Craft Garden - October Challenge

The challenge this month is to use pink ribbon or pink lace or pink yarn. It can be a replica of the breast cancer ribbon symbol that isn't made out of actual ribbon if that fits with your craft and it can be something with just ribbon or lace or yarn on without the symbol.
I used PINK Ric Rac Ribbon as a trim on felt heart cupcake shape I cut out, and I embroidered the cake top with swarovski crystals, sequins and tiny beads + a shrink plastic stamped cupcake charm and a silver Breast Cancer ribbon charm. It has a magnet inside so I can use it as a fridge magnet or I might just sew it on my cupcake craft apron LOL!

Glee Club - Your Children's Music Challenge - Week 3

Worked on my Week 3 LO for the Glee Club Challenge today as well as making Wholemeal bread and doing bits of tidying away follwing Shimelle's LSN Challenge

Love this song, from Raffi, sing it all the time to the boys, I hand cut the bus from a picture and converted it into the basis of my LO, fiddly - BUT effective!

Great Day

Despite the weather being grotty this morning, I just knew we were going to have a great family day. My hubby & I went up to Bristol to meet with our daughter Zoe, her  hubby, the two grandsons and her in-laws, we all went out for lunch to a nearby pub and had a great time.
It was a triple celebration as it had been Grandma Carole's birthday on the 21st September, mine on the 30th and Haydn's will be on 7th October, I made the huge chocolate cupcake  (dairy & nut free) for us to have as a joint birthday cake. Haydn loved it as you can see from the pictures, he even had sneaky seconds.
He also loved the rest of the meal

Saturday, 2 October 2010

And so to bed

Have decorated the birthday cake, just need to take a photo and transport it tomorrow to where we're having lunch, that will be a task and a half as I have not got a tin big enough!

Solved the problem, it was just the right size to go in an upturned Pampered Chef  -Trifle dish, with the lid as the base, then put back in the box, never moved an inch - great stuff!
